Mumbai registers 8,991 vehicles on Dussehra muhurat, two-wheelers lead
Buyers in Mumbai registered 8,991 vehicles around Dussehra, one of Hinduism's three-and-a-half auspicious days, with two-wheelers and electric vehicles favoured.
Mumbaiites bought vehicles in large numbers on Dussehra, one of the three and a half auspicious muhurats in the Hindu calendar. Across the city's four Regional Transport Office (RTO) offices, 8,991 vehicles were registered. Of these, 6,206 were two-wheelers, while 1,785 four-wheelers were recorded. Electric vehicles and two-wheelers were the buyers' preferred choices this Dussehra.
According to official information from the Regional Transport Department, a total of 8,798 vehicles were registered at the four RTO offices: Tardeo (Mumbai Central), Wadala, Andheri and Borivali. Mumbai Central recorded the most, with 3,537 vehicles. It led in both two-wheeler and four-wheeler purchases, and showed an increase in the latter.
Among four-wheelers, Mumbai Central again recorded the most, with 924 vehicles, followed by Andheri with 588, Wadala with 555 and Borivali with 172. This suggests that demand for four-wheelers in urban areas keeps rising.
Two-wheelers accounted for 70 per cent of sales. Between October 13 and 20, the Mumbai Central RTO added 2,401 two-wheelers. The Wadala RTO registered 2,146, Andheri 1,351 and Borivali 312. Of the total 8,798 vehicles, 6,210 were two-wheelers, about 70 per cent of all sales.
Customers buying petrol two-wheelers this time had considerable fear and confusion about E20 petrol. Concerns were raised that E20 petrol would affect engine performance and mileage. But all vehicle makers now clearly mark E20 on the engine and also provide a certificate. For this reason, many buyers brought home a new two-wheeler on the auspicious Dussehra muhurat without worry.
Attractive festival discounts and gifts from companies, easy low-interest loans from banks, and Mumbaiites' long-held belief in buying a vehicle on an auspicious muhurat all combined to bring a big surge in the vehicle market in Dussehra week, as in every year.
