Mumbai recorded 12,622 home registrations in September 2026, according to a report by Knight Frank India. The report says this is the highest figure for the month of September in the past 14 years. The sales generated Rs 1,227 crore in revenue through stamp duty.

Registrations rose 5 per cent from a year earlier. However, while home sales increased, the state government's stamp duty revenue declined. The government received Rs 1,227 crore this month, against Rs 1,292 crore in September 2025, a fall of 5 per cent. The report attributes the decline to a change in the nature of transactions.

On a month-on-month basis, registrations in September rose a marginal 0.3 per cent over August 2026, when 12,580 homes were registered. Revenue in August had risen 8 per cent to more than Rs 1,131 crore. The festive season brought good activity to the market this month.

Purchases rose during Ganeshotsav. During the festival, which ran from September 14 to 25, 5,379 homes were registered in Mumbai. This is a 22 per cent increase over Ganeshotsav 2025 and the highest festival-period figure in the past four years.

In earlier years, 4,392 homes were registered during Ganeshotsav in 2025, 3,405 in 2024 and 3,782 in 2023. Notably, more than half of the month's total revenue came during this festival period alone.
