The Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) has taken two major decisions in an official letter. First, the answer sheets of the State Services Main Examination 2025 will be checked again, that is, re-evaluated. Second, the State Services Main Examination 2026, due to begin on October 3, 2026, and some other examinations have been postponed.

After the results of the State Services Main Examination 2025, several student organisations and students had strongly objected to the way marks were awarded. The commission had received a large number of complaints about the evaluation of the answer sheets. Taking these objections and complaints seriously, the commission decided to have the 2025 mains answer sheets re-evaluated. This could stretch the entire process for the examination somewhat.

The state government has formed a high-level committee to review the pattern and system of the state's examinations. The committee will speak to students across the state and soon present key recommendations to improve the examination system. Meanwhile, in view of the controversy over the 2025 examination and the new committee's report, students, parents and political leaders had strongly demanded that the examination dates be pushed back.

Keeping this in mind, the commission has for now postponed the State Services Main Examination 2026, the Maharashtra Civil Engineering Main Examination 2026 and the Maharashtra Group B Main Examination 2026, all due from October 3, 2026. The new dates will be announced soon.

Shiv Sena (UBT) legislator Aditya Thackeray has reacted to the MPSC decision. He welcomed the decision to postpone the examinations and thanked Maharashtra Governor Jishnu Dev Varma for it. In his statement he also expressed the hope that, just as this decision was taken, the resignation of the MPSC chairman would also be taken soon.

Thackeray said he was grateful to the Governor because the State Services Commission examination was postponed by accepting the demand of youth across Maharashtra that he had placed before the Governor.
