A 17-year-old was allegedly gang-raped near Delhi's Kalkaji temple; one accused was shot in the leg and arrested after a police encounter, two others are still being hunted.

A deeply disturbing case has emerged from Delhi. A 17-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped near the Kalkaji temple and ISKCON temple in the capital. According to police, the incident took place in the Aastha Kunj Park area. As soon as the matter came to light, police swung into action and arrested an accused named Asif after an encounter. During the operation, the accused was shot in the leg and was admitted to the AIIMS Trauma Centre for treatment. The other two accused are still being hunted.

Police said a PCR call reporting the rape was received around 8:45 pm on Monday near the Kalkaji temple and ISKCON temple. A police team reached the spot as soon as the call was received. The victim told police she had come to the Kalkaji temple with a friend. The two then went through gate number 7 into Aastha Kunj Park. At that point three men approached them and identified themselves as policemen. It is alleged that the three took the two to a deserted part of the park and committed the crime.

According to the complaint, Asif threatened the girl with a pistol and a knife and allegedly raped her. The victim's complaint also alleges that the other two men took part in the assault. The complaint states that after the incident the accused threatened the victim and her friend and fled. On receiving information, Delhi Police registered a case and began an investigation. CCTV footage from the area was examined and technical surveillance was used to try to identify the accused.

During the investigation, police received information about one of the accused. Police said they tried to stop Asif near DM Office Road in Amar Colony, during which he allegedly fired three shots at the police. According to police, one of these bullets hit head constable Rajesh's bulletproof jacket. In self-defence, the head constable then fired two shots, one of which hit Asif in the right leg. The injured Asif was taken to the AIIMS Trauma Centre for treatment and has been arrested. Several police teams are working to trace the other two accused.

The minor victim's medical examination has been conducted and she is being counselled. A case has been registered at Amar Colony police station under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the POCSO Act. Delhi Police is investigating the matter further, and a search is on for the two accused still at large.
