The film, with Manoj Bajpayee, Boman Irani and Divya Dutta, follows a retired teacher who refuses to leave his home in a Mumbai redevelopment.

In a fast-changing city like Mumbai, a home is more than four walls. It carries memories, emotions and relationships. When a new building is set to replace an old home, a conflict begins between those memories and expectations of the future. Last Man in Tower, a film about that conflict, is coming to audiences soon.

The film, starring Manoj Bajpayee, Boman Irani and Divya Dutta, will be released on Hindi Zee5 on November 6, 2026. It is the story of a retired teacher who stands against an entire housing society for the sake of his home, against the backdrop of redevelopment in Mumbai.

Yogesh Mishra (Manoj Bajpayee), a retired physics teacher, lives in an old housing society in Mumbai. He is the film's central character. The other residents of the society have accepted an attractive redevelopment offer, but Yogesh refuses to leave his home.

Redevelopment promises the residents financial gain and a chance at a better future. For Yogesh, however, the house is not merely a flat. It is tied to many of his memories and to an emotional bond, and so he stands firm. The neighbours he once considered his own turn against him. His refusal blocks the other residents' dreams, and the conflict of the society against one man grows more intense.

At the heart of this conflict is Sangeeta Puri (Divya Dutta). Her son has special needs, and she hopes for a better future for him. That is why she supports redevelopment. For her, the offer is a chance to change her family's life. On the other side, Boman Irani plays the developer, Dharmen Shah, who is working to get the redevelopment under way. As a result, the conflict between Yogesh, Sangeeta and the developer takes on many emotional and practical dimensions.

The film is based on the novel of the same name by Aravind Adiga. It is produced by Rana Daggubati under the banner Spirit Media. It is directed by Ben Rekhi, and the screenplay is written by Suni Taraporewala. The film deals with urban redevelopment in Mumbai, financial insecurity in middle-class life and the desire for a better future. It shows how relationships between people change when one man's decision collides with the collective expectations of a whole community.

Manoj Bajpayee said he was drawn to the complexity of the character of Yogesh Mishra. Though Yogesh is firm in his beliefs, the audience wonders whether he is right or wrong. He noted that, for an actor, this ambiguity is important. Redevelopment has become part of everyday life in a city like Mumbai, and the film explores what happens to families' memories and emotional bonds when new buildings rise in place of old ones, Bajpayee said.

According to director Ben Rekhi, this is a story about holding a community and a family together. The film underlines how important it is to stay connected to one another in turbulent times. He also noted that bringing together two veterans such as Manoj Bajpayee and Boman Irani was a satisfying experience.

The film is not merely a clash between right and wrong. Each character has their own circumstances, needs and hopes for the future, so the audience can view the conflict from different sides. The emotional bond with a home, changing relations among neighbours, the financial opportunities that redevelopment brings and the wish to preserve old memories will all be seen together in the film.
