The Railway Protection Force (RPF) at Ajni has arrested the man accused of throwing stones at three AC coaches of the Nagpur-Mumbai Duronto Express (12289) from Automotive Square. The accused has been identified as Narendra Kumar Hisabi Lal Sirsam (35), a resident of Mandla, Madhya Pradesh.

The incident took place at around 8.46 pm on September 25 between Borkhedi and Sindi. The stone-pelting shattered the window glass of three AC coaches of the train. Videos shot by passengers went viral on social media, and serious questions began to be raised about the incident.

During questioning, Narendra said that on the night of the incident he was under stress because of a family dispute and had drunk heavily. He said that in this state he crossed the railway line near Borkhedi without permission, picked up stones lying on the track and began hurling them at the Nagpur-Mumbai Duronto Express passing in front of him. The stones broke the window panes of the train.

On receiving news of the incident, all the departments concerned, including the RPF and the commercial department, reached the spot and began an investigation. As there was no trace of the accused, Senior DSC Manoj Kumar formed a special team.

The team included Ajni IPF RG Nipsaiya, SIB IPF Arun Thawre, SI RK Ram, SI Ashwin Pawar, ASI Abhay Bedarkar, Atul Sawant, Wasim Khan, Harvinder Singh and Shyam Jhadokar.

The team kept continuous watch at Borkhedi railway station, Brahmani village and the Butibori area, and spread a network of informers. During this, an informer gave firm information that the accused was working as a mason at a building under construction near Automotive Square.

The RPF team raided the site immediately and took the suspect into custody. Under sustained questioning, Narendra Kumar confessed to the crime. He was arrested on the basis of the cases registered against him and was produced before a court on Wednesday. The investigation is continuing.
