Mahindra has given its popular 3-door Thar a major update, launching the new Mahindra Thar OG in India. The SUV has a starting ex-showroom price of Rs 10.32 lakh. Deliveries of the new Thar OG will begin from October 11, 2026, and this starting price will apply to vehicles delivered up to November 30. The vehicle is available in three trims: AXT, LXT and ZXT.

The new Thar OG features not just a design change but also a major shift in its platform. Mahindra has used the M_Glyde 4G platform, which increases structural rigidity. At the rear, it gets Pentalink suspension along with a Watts Link. Frequency Dependent Damping and electric power steering have been used to improve ride quality and driving experience. Extra NVH insulation has also been added in the cabin to reduce noise and vibration.

On the engine front, the 2.0-litre G20 TGDi mStallion petrol engine produces 160 hp and 330 Nm of torque. The 2.2-litre D22 mHawk diesel engine generates 150 hp and 330 Nm of torque, while the 1.5-litre D117 CRDe diesel engine produces 117 hp and 300 Nm. The 4WD variants get an electronic locking differential along with Mud, Sand and Snow modes.

In terms of looks, the SUV gets a new grille, round LED headlamps with C-shaped daytime running lights, an updated bumper and new LED tail lamps. The top ZXT variant gets 19-inch alloy wheels. Two new colours, Artemis Silver and Jeans Blue, have also been added. Inside the cabin, the ZXT variant gets Truffle Brown leatherette seats and cupholders with a soft armrest.

On safety, the ZXT variant gets 6 airbags, of which 4 are HPTS airbags, along with ESP 9.3, disc brakes on all four wheels, front parking sensors, a rear camera and TPMS. The LXT variant gets a 10.25-inch touchscreen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and cruise control. The ZXT variant gets more features including wireless charging, FDD and a premium leatherette interior.

According to Mahindra, more than 4 lakh customers have joined the Thar community so far. The new Thar OG retains the familiar 3-door silhouette while bringing major changes to the platform, suspension, engine, off-road technology and safety.
