Mahindra Thar facelift set to launch today with design, feature updates
Mahindra will unveil the facelifted Thar 3-door today, just a year after the last update, with new styling and more features
Mahindra and Mahindra's popular off-road SUV, the Thar 3-door, is set to be updated again. The company could officially unveil the facelifted version of the SUV today. Notably, the Thar is being updated again within a year of the last update in 2025. Camouflaged prototypes of the SUV have been spotted testing on Indian roads over the past few months.
The new Mahindra Thar facelift could see some key changes to its exterior design. The front is expected to get an updated grille with a honeycomb pattern. New alloy wheel designs may also be offered. Some design elements from the Thar Roxx, the 5-door Thar, are likely to be brought to the 3-door model, including projector LED headlamps with C-shaped daytime running lights. The front and rear bumpers could also change, while the tail lamp design is expected to see some improvement.
In terms of the cabin, the basic layout of the Thar facelift is likely to remain similar to the current model. However, leatherette seat upholstery and updated trim material could be used to give customers a more premium experience. A major addition is expected on the features front. The previous update offered a 10.25-inch touchscreen, rear AC vents, a rear wiper and washer, and a rearview camera. The new model could add a digital driver display, a 360-degree camera, ventilated front seats, a wireless charger and automatic climate control, addressing gaps in the Thar's feature list.
On the engine front, the new Thar facelift is expected to retain the current lineup: a 1.5-litre diesel producing 117bhp, a 2.2-litre diesel producing 130bhp, and a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol producing 150bhp. All engines will come with a 6-speed manual gearbox, while the 2.2-litre diesel and 2.0-litre turbo-petrol also offer a 6-speed automatic. The current drivetrain setup is likely to continue as well: the 1.5-litre diesel with rear-wheel drive only, the 2.2-litre diesel with 4x4, and the turbo-petrol engine offered with both RWD and 4x4 options.
The current Mahindra Thar has an ex-showroom price of around Rs 10.32 lakh to Rs 18 lakh. With new features and design updates, the facelift's price is likely to rise somewhat compared to the outgoing model. After launch, the new Thar will continue to compete directly with off-road SUVs such as the Maruti Suzuki Jimny and the Force Gurkha 3-door. SUV enthusiasts are watching closely to see what changes Mahindra makes and how it prices the new Thar at today's official unveiling.
