Maharashtra tourist, 65, missing after falling into 130-metre gorge on Gomukh trek in Uttarkashi
Ramkumar Hanuman Gupta went missing while trekking from Gangotri to Gomukh; an 18-member team is searching despite bad weather.
A 65-year-old tourist from Maharashtra has gone missing in Uttarkashi. Ramkumar Hanuman Gupta, a relative of Sumit Gupta, who runs a shop called Pooja Sweets in Diksal in Karjat taluka, had gone to Gangotri in Uttarkashi. After visiting the temple there, he set out on the Gomukh trek but went missing on the way.
According to information, Ramkumar Gupta fell into a gorge around 130 metres deep at a place called Kachchidhang, which falls beyond Chirbasa on the Gangotri-Gomukh trek route. According to the district emergency control room's report, the incident took place on September 25.
Ramkumar Gupta is reported to be a resident of Rajgad in Maharashtra. He was part of a group of five people trekking from Gangotri towards Gomukh. While trekking with this group, he strayed from the path and fell into the gorge.
After the incident, an 18-member team was dispatched to the site on Saturday. The team included six SDRF personnel, four people from Nepal, four forest department staff and two police personnel. All these teams have reached the spot and are searching for the missing tourist.
However, bad weather and continuous rain are hampering the search and rescue operation. The search will be intensified once the weather improves. According to the disaster control room, no trace of the missing tourist has been found so far.
The rescue operation is being continuously monitored through coordination between different departments. Search teams are stationed at the site trying to find the missing tourist, but the pace of the operation is slowing due to the bad weather and rain. The administration has said the search operation will be scaled up once conditions normalise.
