The state government has approved Rs 180 crore for the Swargate-Katraj, Vanaz-Chandani Chowk and Ramwadi-Wagholi routes in the financial year 2026-27.
The Maharashtra government has approved Rs 180 crore for three Pune Metro extension projects in the financial year 2026-27. The money will go to the Swargate-Katraj, Vanaz-Chandani Chowk and Ramwadi-Wagholi routes. It will speed up construction and further strengthen public transport in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad.
The largest share of the amount will go to the Swargate-Katraj route, which is entirely underground and is being built by Mahametro. Rs 100 crore will be given as share capital and Rs 80 crore as an interest-free subordinate loan. The sanctioned project cost of this route is Rs 2,955 crore.
The state government has decided to provide a total of Rs 398 crore as share capital for Swargate-Katraj. With the new funds, the share capital given for this route will rise to Rs 200 crore. Rs 60 crore was given in August 2025 and Rs 40 crore in December 2025.
The state has also sanctioned a subordinate loan of Rs 322 crore for this route. After the new instalment, Rs 160 crore of it will have been given. Mahametro will have to repay this subordinate loan in one go after the main project loan is repaid.
A share capital of Rs 20 crore has been approved together for the Vanaz-Chandani Chowk and Ramwadi-Wagholi extensions. The two routes have a combined length of 12.75 km, with 13 stations proposed. They will improve metro connectivity in Chandani Chowk, Kothrud, Kharadi and Wagholi.
The revised sanctioned cost of these two projects is Rs 3,626 crore, for which the state government has agreed to provide Rs 480 crore as share capital. Rs 60 crore was given on 19 June 2026. With the new amount, the total share capital given will be Rs 80 crore.
Mahametro has also been directed to keep separate accounts of the funds received from the Centre, the state and the Pune Municipal Corporation. The new funds will not change the fixed schedule for the metro's start. The actual date on which the metro begins operations will depend on construction progress, further funding and the necessary approvals.
