IMD's forecast for October 28 says most of Maharashtra will stay dry, but thunderstorms are likely in Vidarbha and Marathwada, with heavy to very heavy rain in Gadchiroli.
The weather across Maharashtra is showing a different mood in each region in the last days of October 2026, with rain coming and going in some places and dry conditions expected in others. According to the forecast issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for October 28, the weather will be dry in most places. Local variations, however, could bring rain with lightning in Vidarbha and Marathwada.
The weather will change suddenly in parts of Vidarbha, including Nagpur, on October 28 and 29. Clouds may gather, lightning may strike and it may rain. The effect of the rain will not be uniform across areas and will depend on local conditions. Akola, Amravati and Washim districts will stay dry. Heavy rain with strong winds and lightning is likely in Bhandara, Chandrapur and Gondia, for which a yellow alert has been issued. Gadchiroli district is expected to get heavy to very heavy rain with strong winds and lightning, and an orange alert has been issued there. Farmers and people who work outdoors have been asked to keep a close watch on local weather conditions.
In Marathwada, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna and Parbhani districts may all get light to moderate rain with thunder. Light to moderate rain with strong winds is expected in Hingoli and Nanded, where a yellow alert has been issued. Latur and Dharashiv may get light rain with thunder, while Beed district will stay dry.
In the Konkan, the weather is expected to remain mostly dry in Palghar, Thane, Mumbai and Raigad districts. Thundershowers are possible in Ratnagiri district. Light to moderate rain with lightning has been forecast for Sindhudurg.
Mumbai and its surroundings will be very hot and humid around October 28. Harsh sunshine in the afternoon will make the temperature feel higher. The moisture in the air because of the proximity of the Arabian Sea may add to people's discomfort. It would be advisable to take care while going out in the afternoon, drink plenty of water and avoid staying in the sun for long.
The weather will change in the Western Maharashtra districts of Pune, Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur and Solapur. Pune and Satara are expected to stay dry. Sangli may get light to moderate rain or thundershowers. In Kolhapur district and the Ghat area, light to moderate rain with strong winds may fall in some places.
Pune's maximum temperature today is likely to be around 34 to 35 degrees Celsius. There will be some relief in the morning and at night, but the afternoon sun will remain strong. The sky will be mostly clear, though partial cloud may gather in the afternoon or evening. No special warning has been issued for the city for now.
In North Maharashtra, light to moderate rain or thunder is likely in Dhule, Nandurbar and Jalgaon districts. Nashik and Ahilyanagar districts are expected to stay dry on October 28, though light showers may fall in the Ghat area of Nashik.
The IMD has advised people to stay away from open fields, tall trees and electricity poles when lightning flashes and thunder rumbles. To cope with the heat and humidity, people should not let their bodies get dehydrated. For sudden changes in the weather and the latest advisories, people should regularly check the IMD's official information.
