Landslide in Nepal's Manang district brings down hillside house in seconds, video shows
A video from Chame village in Manang district shows a house on a hillside collapsing within seconds after heavy rain triggered a landslide.
A video shared on social media from Chame village in Nepal's Manang district shows a house built on a hillside collapsing within seconds. The incident is said to have taken place in Nepal. The house fell like a house of cards.
Chame is the headquarters of Manang district. Heavy rain had been falling there. On September 27, the ground began to give way before people could grasp what was happening. Panic broke out, and people shouted as they tried to save their lives.
A person at the spot recorded the entire scene on a phone camera. The video is now trending widely on the internet. It was shared on X from an account named @surajit_ghosh2. The post says a major landslide has occurred in Nepal and that the footage is hard to believe, as if an entire mountain collapsed in a few seconds.
According to Nepali media reports, the landslide was caused by a flood of mud and debris in the Marsyangdi river. This led to a major flood in the lower areas and the situation turned serious.
The District Administration Office has clarified that the river has not been blocked completely. However, a large volume of mud is flowing with the water, which makes the situation extremely serious. The administration has asked people to stay away from the river, and work to manage the situation is under way.
Nepal had faced a disaster-like situation not long ago, causing heavy economic loss and loss of life. The country was still recovering when this new incident occurred. The second such natural disaster has once again raised serious questions about Nepal's safety and its weather-related crises.
