Kitchen bin smelling bad? Baking soda and home remedies fix it in minutes
Simple household items like baking soda, neem leaves and old newspaper can eliminate bad odour from the kitchen dustbin.
Kitchen dustbins often start smelling bad, making the home feel dirty and spoiling the atmosphere. To deal with this, most people turn to room fresheners available in the market. But there are simple methods using things already at home that need no special items.
The first and easiest method is using baking soda. If the trash bin is smelling, baking soda is always considered a good option because it absorbs the odour inside the bin. After cleaning the dustbin and before putting in a new garbage bag, sprinkle 1 to 2 teaspoons of baking soda at the bottom of the bin and spread it around. Some baking soda can also be put inside the garbage bag itself. This immediately reduces the smell coming from wet waste.
If baking soda is not available at home, neem bark or neem leaves can be used instead. Place dried neem bark or neem leaves at the bottom of the kitchen dustbin. Neem bark or leaves kill the bacteria present in the trash bin, which stops the kitchen dustbin from smelling.
Newspaper, which is easily available in every home, can also be used. Before putting the garbage bag in the bin, line the bottom of the bin with newspaper. This paper absorbs the water that comes out of wet waste, preventing the bin from smelling.
Households with pets that have cat litter available can also place it at the bottom of the bin. It absorbs both moisture and odour effectively. Besides this, once a week while washing the bin, cleaning it with water mixed with a little apple cider vinegar kills bacteria.
To avoid odour completely, wet and dry kitchen waste should always be kept separate. The dustbin should have a tightly closing lid. The trash bin should also be washed thoroughly with soap and hot water once a week. By following these household methods, the smell coming from the home dustbin can be easily eliminated.
