J&K notifies new EV policy with subsidy of up to Rs 1.5 lakh and road tax waiver
Buyers of electric vehicles in Jammu and Kashmir will get direct subsidies of up to Rs 1.5 lakh and waivers of up to 100 per cent on road tax and registration fees.
The government has officially notified its new electric vehicle policy. The policy is meant to keep the environment clean in the state and reduce pollution.
Under the policy, people buying electric vehicles in the state will get substantial concessions. The Jammu and Kashmir government will give a direct subsidy of up to Rs 1.5 lakh on different types of vehicles. Significant relief on road tax and registration fees has also been announced.
The policy covers all categories of vehicles. Buyers of electric two-wheelers will get a concession based on the battery capacity of the vehicle. Special subsidies have also been provided for three-wheeler operators and commercial vehicles. The biggest benefit, however, will go to those planning to buy a four-wheeler, that is, an electric car.
The government is offering a subsidy of up to Rs 1.5 lakh on four-wheelers. The subsidy will depend on the ex-showroom price and the battery capacity of the vehicle. This will bring down the starting price of an electric car considerably.
Under the new EV policy, the government has decided to give a waiver of up to 100 per cent on the registration and road tax of electric vehicles. Besides the subsidy, buyers will also gain on the on-road price.
Road tax and registration charges are usually a heavy burden when buying a new vehicle. That money will now be saved on electric vehicles, bringing the on-road price down considerably and making it easier for the average buyer to opt for one.
