Jio's Rs 123 plan for JioPhone offers 28 days of free calling and 14 GB data

As recharge costs weigh on every pocket, Jio has a plan that lasts a full month for just Rs 123. Its validity is 28 days. Other plans have grown costlier, and Rs 200-300 a month goes out easily.

The company gives 0.5 GB of data a day under the plan. That is not much, but it is enough for light use of WhatsApp and YouTube. Calling is free to any number, local or outstation, with no cap on talk time.

The plan also includes SMS, with 300 messages available over the 28 days. Once the daily data is used up, the internet does not stop. The speed drops to 64 Kbps and the connection keeps running.

In all, the plan provides 14 GB of data over the 28 days. For people who mainly make calls, that is ample.

JioSaavn and JioTV are also free. On JioTV, live TV channels, serials and films can be watched.

The plan is not for everyone. It is meant only for JioPhone users, not for smartphone users. It is designed for the company's small keypad 4G phone. Anyone in a household who has a JioPhone can be recharged with it for Rs 123.

For those who do not want the Rs 123 plan, other options are available for the JioPhone: plans of Rs 234 and Rs 369, and a larger Rs 1,234 plan. Internet access is much the same across all the plans.

Users should check before recharging that they have a JioPhone and not recharge in haste.
