Jio, T-Mobile launch worlds first 5G standalone roaming between India and US
Jio and T-Mobile have partnered to offer seamless 5G standalone roaming for users travelling between India and the United States.
India's Jio and America's T-Mobile have entered into a partnership that the companies say will completely change the roaming experience for mobile users travelling between the two countries. The companies said this is the first time in the world that two countries' 5G standalone networks have been connected through roaming in this way.
Under the partnership, Jio users travelling from India to the US will get seamless roaming on T-Mobile's 5G standalone network. Similarly, T-Mobile customers travelling from the US to India will be able to use Jio's 5G standalone network. This means users will get roaming on the new network in the same way even after changing countries.
According to the companies, this will give users not just faster internet speeds but also low latency and a more reliable connection. While roaming, customers of both companies will be able to easily handle video streaming as well as office work, and users in both countries will be able to comfortably use 5G networks while roaming.
T-Mobile's chief network officer Ankur Kapoor said that customers will be able to use 5G speeds even after reaching a different country, calling it a major strength of the technology.
Jio's head of international network, partnerships and services, Mark Yarkosky, said this achievement is not limited to roaming alone. According to him, the coming together of Jio's and T-Mobile's 5G standalone networks could also open the way for new services for customers and businesses, including AI-based services.
Customers travelling between India and the US will directly benefit from this 5G standalone roaming connection between Jio and T-Mobile. The platform of Syniverse played a key role in making this roaming connection possible, helping securely connect the Jio and T-Mobile networks.
