Rahul Gandhi slams Bihar govt after video of minor girl molested in Jamui goes viral

A video of a Class 10 boy and girl being beaten and the girl molested in Jamui has sparked outrage, with three men arrested so far.

A deeply shameful incident has come to light from Jamui district in Bihar. A boy and a girl, both studying in Class 10, were stopped on the road by some men while returning from coaching classes, and beaten. The accused allegedly also molested the girl. The girl kept pleading with folded hands to be let go, but the men continued to harass and molest her.

A video of the entire incident spread rapidly on social media, sparking anger among people across the country. According to police, the incident took place on Saturday, September 19, around 7 pm. Police have so far arrested three accused in the case.

Reacting to the issue, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi posted on social media, targeting both the Bihar government and the Modi government at the Centre. He wrote that the video from Jamui was deeply disturbing. A boy and a girl studying in Class 10 were forcibly stopped on the road, abused, humiliated, and the girl was molested. Gandhi said the girl pleaded with folded hands to be let go, but the men still touched her inappropriately and continued to harass her.

Rahul Gandhi questioned who had given these men the right to behave with such indecency. He said this was not culture but patriarchal thinking, where men believe they have control over a girl's body, her actions and her choices. He also said that when blind followers normalise such incidents, people with such thinking begin to treat it as law.

Rahul Gandhi demanded that every person seen in the video be identified and prosecuted under the POCSO Act and punished at the earliest. He asked why, if the incident took place on September 19, the accused were still not in jail. He also sought an answer from the Bihar government on why girls are not safe on Bihar's roads even at 7 pm.

Meanwhile, Apsara, chairperson of the Bihar State Women's Commission, has taken a strict stand on the matter. She said the commission has taken cognisance of the incident and a team will be sent to meet the victim and her family. After receiving full details of the case from the Jamui district magistrate, the chairperson directed strict action against the guilty. She said such incidents are unacceptable and no accused will be spared.

Jamui district magistrate Naveen confirmed the arrests. Jamui superintendent of police Vishwajeet Dayal said a video had come to his notice showing two minor girls being molested. Following this, police recorded statements, which revealed that the incident took place on September 19 at around 7 pm. Dayal called it an unfortunate incident and said police would soon launch an awareness campaign to prevent such incidents from happening again.
