Jaguar Land Rover launches all-electric Range Rover Sport in India with claimed 609 km range

Jaguar Land Rover has launched the electric model of its much-awaited Range Rover Sport in India. Bookings have also opened. It is the first fully electric version of the Range Rover Sport.

The SUV has two electric motors, all-wheel drive and a 118.5 kWh battery. It produces a maximum of 550 PS of power and 850 Nm of torque. The company claims a range of up to 609 km under the WLTP cycle, though the real-world range is estimated at up to 535 km.

The electric SUV is quick. It takes only 4.5 seconds to go from 0 to 100 kmph.

On charging, its 800V electrical architecture gives it strong capability. A DC fast charger can deliver up to 350 kW. Charging from 10 to 80 per cent takes about 22 minutes, while 10 minutes of charging can add up to 220 km of range. On a 22 kW AC charger, a full charge takes about 7 hours.

Off-road capability has been retained. The SUV has a water-wading depth of 900 mm and can climb gradients of up to 45 degrees.

Because of the electric powertrain, major changes have also been made to the chassis. Body stiffness has been raised by 61 per cent and the centre of gravity lowered by 73 mm. Features include Dynamic Air Suspension, Adaptive Dynamics, Twin Valve Dampers, Active Roll Control and All-Wheel Steering.

ThermAssist technology and a liquid cooling system are used to regulate the battery's temperature. The company has tested the battery from -40 degrees C to 90 degrees C. The battery carries a warranty of 8 years or 160,000 km. Digital Twin technology will allow remote monitoring of the battery's health.

The Range Rover Sport Electric will come in four trims: Dynamic SE, Dynamic HSE, Autobiography and First Edition. The SUV will be built at the Solihull plant in the UK. The electric model also gets distinct alloy wheels, an aerodynamic grille and a special electric sound signature.
