Indian Navy warship INS Trishul has arrived at the French naval port of Toulon. The ship will take part in the 24th edition of Varuna, the bilateral maritime exercise between India and France.

During the exercise, naval personnel from both countries will train together at sea. They will share their experience with each other and work on building better coordination in maritime conditions. According to the Indian Navy, the exercise aims to further strengthen maritime cooperation, coordination and operational effectiveness between the two navies.

The programme under the Varuna exercise will not be limited to the sea alone. Professional interactions will also take place between naval personnel of both countries at Toulon port. Besides this, the exercise will include visits to each other's warships to exchange mission-related information, as well as various sports events.

Following this, the forces of both countries will carry out exercises together, during which they will share their experience and working methods with each other. A key feature of this exercise is that it expands the scope of contact and training between the two navies, from the harbour phase to the deep sea. The aim is not limited to the exercise alone, but also to help both forces understand each other's working methods and build strong coordination during joint missions.

INS Trishul, which has reached Toulon, is a Talwar-class guided missile frigate. It is a multi-purpose warship fitted with modern weapons and sensors, and also has the facility to operate helicopters. Over the past few years, INS Trishul has undergone several important upgrades, including indigenous systems and new sensors. The warship has also been fitted with modern electronic support and communication systems.

Meanwhile, during the exercise the French Navy will use warships such as Forbin and La Fayette.
