India's women's hockey team followed up a 19-0 win over Uzbekistan with a 17-1 rout of Indonesia at the Asian Games 2026.
India's women's hockey team kept up its dominant run at the Asian Games 2026, thrashing Indonesia 17-1 after routing Uzbekistan 19-0 in its opening match. This was the team's second big win in as many matches.
India's forwards tore through Indonesia's defence in the match. The team was on top from the start, keeping up sustained pressure on Indonesia's defence and scoring one goal after another. Deepika, Rutuja Pisal and Navneet Kaur each scored hat-tricks, netting three goals apiece. Sunita Toppo, Lalremsiami and Sakshi Rana each scored two goals to play a key role in India's win. Captain Salima Tete and Ishika scored one goal each.
India's dominance was clear in the first two quarters, with the team building a 9-0 lead by half-time. Indonesia's only goal of the match came in the third quarter, scored by Innes Aditya. Apart from that one goal, Indonesia failed to breach India's defence at any other point in the match. India scored four goals in the first quarter and five more in the second to extend its lead.
In the third quarter, India responded to Indonesia's goal by scoring five goals of its own. In the fourth quarter, India added three more goals to seal the match 17-1. Deepika, who scored three goals in this match, kept up the form she showed against Uzbekistan in the first match, where she had scored eight goals on her own. Across the two matches, Deepika has now scored 11 goals in total, underlining her role in the team's wins. With this victory, India has moved to the top of Group B and will look to continue its winning run in the matches ahead.
