ICC fines India and West Indies for slow over rate in third ODI at New Chandigarh
India lost 20 per cent of their match fee and West Indies 10 per cent after the third ODI, which West Indies won by five wickets to make the series 2-1.
The three-match ODI series between India and West Indies has ended, with India winning 2-1. India won the first two ODIs, while the third went to West Indies. The ICC has now fined both teams for a slow over rate.
The third ODI was played in New Chandigarh on October 3. India bowled four overs short of the allotted time, and the ICC deducted 20 per cent of the team's match fee. West Indies bowled two overs short and were fined 10 per cent of their match fee.
ICC match referee Prakash Bhatt imposed the penalties. No hearing was held because both captains admitted the offence. On-field umpires Jayaraman Madanagopal and Sam Nogajski lodged the charges against Shubman Gill and Shai Hope. Third umpire Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid and fourth umpire Virender Sharma also lodged charges.
West Indies beat India by five wickets in the third ODI. Batting first, India scored 351 for 7 in 50 overs. Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul batted well for India, and Rahul scored a century. India had been expected to complete a clean sweep by winning the third match, but that did not happen. West Indies won in just 48.2 overs, with captain Shai Hope scoring an unbeaten 162.
The two teams will now play a five-match T20 series starting on October 6. The first match will be played in Lucknow on October 6. Both teams are ready for the contest. The Indian team, led by Shreyas Iyer, has performed strongly so far. India recently beat Pakistan to win the gold medal at the Asian Games.
