Hyundai's Creta has once again proved its popularity in the Indian car market. Total sales of the mid-size SUV, which arrived in India in July 2015, have now reached 15,12,036 units. In financial year 2026, the Creta recorded record sales of 2,01,921 units. Spread across petrol and diesel engines to an electric version, the model has kept customers' trust for nearly ten years.

The Creta was first launched in India on July 21, 2015. It was initially offered with 1.6-litre petrol, 1.4-litre diesel and 1.6-litre diesel engine options. Its attractive SUV design, high seating position, automatic transmission and features helped it find a place among buyers in a short time. In financial year 2018, its annual sales crossed 1 lakh units.

The second generation of the Creta was introduced in March 2020, with a new exterior design and an updated cabin. A 1.4-litre turbo petrol option was added to the 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines. A panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, connected technology and a choice of automatic transmissions made the car more appealing.

A major facelift came in January 2024. The interior was changed with a new grille, connected LED lighting, an updated dashboard and two 10.25-inch displays. A 360-degree camera and Level 2 ADAS were offered in select variants. In March 2024, the Creta N Line arrived with a sporty look and improved suspension.

In early 2025, Hyundai launched the Creta Electric. It comes with 42 kWh and 51.4 kWh battery options, with ARAI-certified ranges of 420 km and 510 km respectively. The version with the larger battery delivers 169 hp. Features such as vehicle-to-load capability and Level 2 ADAS are also provided.

Multiple options including petrol, diesel, turbo petrol and electric, a comfortable cabin and modern features have played a big part in the Creta's popularity. Sales of 1,18,092 units in financial year 2022 rose to 1,94,871 units in financial year 2025.

The next-generation Creta is now likely to arrive next year and is expected to get strong hybrid technology. Its arrival in 2027 has been indicated as a possibility. However, the company has not yet made any official announcement on this.
