Eligible Hyundai owners with Bluelink-connected cars can get up to 15% off the own-damage part of their motor insurance premium, depending on how they drive.

Hyundai Motor India has launched a new feature called Hyundai Bluelink Usage-Based Insurance. Eligible customers can get a saving of up to 15% on the own-damage premium of their motor insurance, depending on how they drive. The company announced the feature on November 5, 2026. It can be availed at the time of insurance renewal for select vehicles with Bluelink connectivity.

The discount does not apply to the entire insurance bill. It applies only to the own-damage portion of the premium.

The feature looks at the vehicle's driving over the past three months. Rapid acceleration, sudden braking, speed control, sudden drops in speed and leaving the vehicle parked with the engine running all affect the driving score. The Bluelink system collects this information from the car. Insurance companies taking part in the scheme then take the score into account when setting the premium.

Eligibility for the driving score starts at 70. Drivers who score 70 or above are likely to get a discount. However, not everyone is guaranteed the full 15%. The actual discount depends on the insurance company's rules and its assessment. Drivers with a low score may get personal tips for improving their driving in the Bluelink app.

As an example, if the own-damage premium is Rs 10,000, a 15% discount could save Rs 1,500. The discount does not apply to third-party insurance or other charges.

There is also a condition for using the feature. Customers whose eligible Hyundai vehicle with Bluelink connectivity is due for insurance renewal within the next 90 days can check their eligibility. After seeing the score, the customer's consent is required to share it with the insurance company. The score from the Bluelink app will be shared with insurers only after the customer approves. Hyundai India Insurance Broking will act as the intermediary in the arrangement.

According to Hyundai, more than 8 lakh connected cars are running on Indian roads. The company aims to sell 10 lakh connected cars by 2027 and 20 lakh by 2030. This is the company's target, not the current figure.

While choosing insurance, it is not advisable to look only at the discount. The total premium, IDV, deductibles and the cover provided under the policy should also be checked.
