A simple recipe makes crunchy butter chakli from soaked and cooked dals and rice flour, with no need to prepare bhajani flour.

Many kinds of snacks are made in homes at Diwali. Chakli is made in particular, and a snack platter feels incomplete without the crunchy spiral.

Chakli is usually made with bhajani, a flour prepared from different dals. But if something goes wrong while making the bhajani, the taste of the snack is spoilt completely. Many people also get tired of making it. In such a case, this easy recipe for crisp chakli without bhajani can come in handy. Butter chakli made this way tastes very good and everyone will praise you for it. It is ready quickly, in little time.

The ingredients needed are chana dal, moong dal, urad dal and water. Rice flour, white sesame seeds, carom seeds (ajwain), red chilli powder, turmeric, asafoetida, salt and coriander-cumin powder are also needed. Keep butter, lukewarm water and oil for frying ready as well.

The method begins with the dals. First, mix chana dal, yellow moong dal and urad dal together in a large bowl and wash them three times in water.

Let the dals soak for an hour. Then put them in a cooker vessel and cook until they are soft. Do not add too much water while cooking the dal.

Now, in a large plate, mix the rice flour, white sesame seeds, carom seeds, red chilli, turmeric, asafoetida, salt to taste, coriander-cumin powder and butter well.

Add the cooked dal to this mixture and knead the dough slowly with lukewarm water. Cover the kneaded dough with a cloth and a lid.

Then heat oil in a kadhai. Put the prepared chaklis into the hot oil and fry on a low flame until crisp on both sides.

The butter chaklis made without bhajani are ready.
