A case over alleged delays in development work and related complaints in the Savangi (Meghe) gram panchayat has reached the Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court. Vilas Kamble, former vice-president of the Zilla Parishad, had filed a petition. After hearing it, the court directed the officials concerned to conduct an inquiry within four weeks and take action as per rules.
The court gave the direction on the issues raised in a representation submitted on August 20. In his petition, Kamble named Parag Soman, chief executive officer of the Zilla Parishad, Rahul Jumde, village development officer of the Savangi (Meghe) gram panchayat, and contractor Arvind Nikose. The court has asked for an inquiry and necessary action under the rules, keeping in view all the issues listed in the representation.
The case concerns the construction of a road from Sarika Apartment towards Paloti Road in the Savangi (Meghe) gram panchayat area.
Provision of Rs 7.66 lakh for the road
According to Kamble, a provision of Rs 7.66 lakh from the 15th Finance Commission fund for building the road was approved at a gram panchayat meeting on September 17, 2024. Technical and administrative approvals followed, and a work order was issued on June 20, 2025. After the tender process was completed, the work was given to Arvind Construction of Wardha.
Kamble said that under the terms of the agreement, the work should have been completed in three months. He alleged that letters and requests were repeatedly sent to the gram panchayat and the officials concerned to get the work started, but there was no significant progress. He has also demanded an inquiry into the tender process for various works of the gram panchayat, and into the objections raised in earlier audits.
Will return to court if no action is taken
Following the High Court's direction, Kamble expressed hope that all the matters concerned would be investigated impartially and that those found guilty would face action as per rules. He added that if no action is taken within the stipulated time, he will approach the court again. Advocates Saurabh Bhende and Tejal Agre appeared for the petitioner.
