Gondia City Police have traced 50 Android mobile phones that were lost over the past four months, using technical investigation and sound judgment. The recovered phones are said to be worth about Rs 20 lakh in all.
The phones were handed over to their rightful owners by police officers on Saturday, October 24. The owners were delighted to have their valuable phones back after a long time. They said they felt relieved and heaped praise on Gondia Police for the swift action.
The city police station area had been receiving a steady stream of complaints about phones of different companies going missing from various places. Taking these cases seriously, station in-charge and Police Inspector Praveen Borkute had issued special instructions to trace the lost phones.
Following this, Ashok Rahangdale, a police constable of the Detection of Crime Branch (DB), uploaded applications relating to the lost phones on the Central Government's Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal. The city police DB team then successfully traced all the phones on the basis of technical evidence and location data.
Sub-Divisional Police Officer Dinesh Shukla, Police Inspector Praveen Borkute, Assistant Police Inspector Madavi and Woman Police Sub-Inspector Bais were present at the event on October 24. The lost phones were returned to people in the presence of these officers.
The entire operation was carried out under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Gorakh Bhamre, Additional Superintendent of Police Abhay Dongre and Sub-Divisional Police Officer Dinesh Shukla. After four months of effort, 50 people got their lost mobile phones back.
