Ghatkopar: 12-year-old allegedly injected in neck with drug while playing near school
A schoolboy playing with friends in Barve Nagar was allegedly injected in the neck by a few people; police have begun an investigation.
A shocking incident has come to light in Barve Nagar in Mumbai's Ghatkopar area. A 12-year-old schoolboy, who was playing with friends in front of his school, was allegedly injected in the neck with a narcotic by some people. The boy studies at a municipal school in Barve Nagar. The incident has spread fear across the area.
According to the information available, the boy was playing with his friends in the ground in front of the school. Local residents say six to seven people sit in this ground to take drugs. It is alleged that while the boy was playing, some people from this group came up from behind and jabbed an injection into his neck.
Soon afterwards, the boy began to feel dizzy. He also developed a fever and sat down on the ground.
Seeing his condition suddenly worsen, people nearby informed his family. His family took him to the nearby municipal Muktabai Hospital and got him admitted. He is reportedly undergoing treatment at present. His family is also deeply distressed by the incident.
Police began an investigation after learning of the incident. The process of recording the boy's statement is under way. It is said that a case will be registered against those concerned on the basis of his statement and further action will follow. There is no information of any arrest so far.
Police may also examine whether there have been any complaints about drug users loitering around the school and the ground.
The incident, in a ground where minor children play, has heightened parents' concern. The question of children's safety has now come to the fore. Local residents are likely to demand strict action against drug users near the school and in public grounds.
