Gadkari says 100% ethanol Toyota Innova Hycross may be unveiled in November
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has announced that Toyota's flex-fuel Innova Hycross, able to run on 100 per cent ethanol, is likely to be unveiled in November 2026.
A significant step is being taken in the Indian automobile sector to promote vehicles that run on ethanol. Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has made a major announcement about Toyota's Innova Hycross flex-fuel model. The car is likely to be unveiled in November 2026. The strong hybrid technology that lets it run on 100 per cent ethanol has the whole automobile sector watching the vehicle.
According to available information, the car could be formally presented on November 25. However, the final launch date and the price are yet to be officially confirmed by the company.
On the engine, Toyota showed a prototype of a flex-fuel strong hybrid car based on the Innova Hycross in 2023. In this technology, necessary changes are made to the petrol engine so that it can run on fuel with a higher ethanol content. A hybrid system based on an electric motor and a battery is also provided.
This technology allows the vehicle to run on different fuel blends. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has said that the upcoming Innova E100 can run on 100 per cent ethanol. However, the car's actual technical features and official fuel consumption figures will become clear only after the presentation.
Ethanol is a biofuel made mainly from sugarcane and other biological sources. In India, the emphasis had been on increasing the use of E20 fuel. Attention is now also being paid to alternative fuel technology such as E100.
Because the electric motor assists in a strong hybrid system, fuel can be used more efficiently. It is hoped that this will help reduce dependence on petrol. Even so, how much customers will actually save will be known only after comparing the actual cost of ethanol, the vehicle's mileage and maintenance costs.
The updated Innova Hycross is expected to bring changes in design and interior. The Kijang Innova Zenix model sold in Indonesia has received some new features, and the model coming to India is likely to get some of these changes too.
The likely features include a large 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen. A 12.3-inch digital driver display is expected in the hybrid variant, while the petrol variant may get a 7-inch digital display. On the outside, a new front grille, a revised bumper and updated tail lamps are likely. It is not yet certain, however, that every variant launched in India will have all these features.
On the launch, it is being said that the updated Toyota Innova Hycross could be presented or launched in India on November 26, 2026. Technical details, price and variant information for the flex-fuel version will become clear after the official announcement.
On the whole, the Toyota Innova Hycross flex-fuel could prove significant for alternative fuel technology in India. Its ability to run on 100 per cent ethanol, the hybrid system and the possible new features have made customers curious about the car. Before deciding to buy, it will be important to check the official price, mileage and day-to-day running costs.
