Gadchandur-Lakhmapur road breaks up a day after eight-day closure for railway gate repair

The road at railway gate No. 11 was shut for eight days for repairs but came apart a day after work ended, angering residents.

The Gadchandur-Lakhmapur road was kept closed for a full eight days for repairs at railway gate No. 11 (LC No. 11/GDCR). But a day after the work was completed, the road broke up. Citizens are angry over the way the railway department works.

The levelling and metalling work at the railway crossing is also said to be incomplete, which has raised questions about the quality of the repairs.

The main road remained shut for eight days at a stretch. During this time, ordinary people and motorists fully cooperated with the administration. They had expected the road to be durable, strong and safe after the work.

However, a day after the work ended, the road came apart completely and is in a bad state. With gravel and stone chips scattered, the risk of two-wheelers skidding and falling has risen sharply. If a road kept closed for eight days deteriorates in a single day, it raises a serious question about the quality of the work.

The road near this railway gate has had a problem with potholes for several years. Motorists have to struggle because of the potholes, and several accidents have also occurred in this area. A permanent repair of the road around the gate is therefore necessary.

A temporary cover-up will not do. The reason the road keeps deteriorating must be found and a permanent fix applied. The department concerned should take this matter of citizens' safety seriously.

Harishchandra Thipe, a social activist from Lakhmapur, said, "If the quality of repairs does not last even after the road was closed for eight days, what is the use of this work? Was only superficial work done in the name of repairs? The repair work should be thoroughly investigated and appropriate action taken against those responsible. Otherwise, we will launch an intense agitation against the railway administration and stop the trains."

Krishna Prasad, divisional engineer of the railway line section at Manikgarh, said the road was kept closed for eight days for repairs at railway gate No. 11 (LC No. 11/GDCR) on the Gadchandur-Lakhmapur road, and levelling and metalling work was carried out at the railway crossing. The remaining work will be done soon.
