There is good news for government employees in the festival season. The Union government recently announced a 78-day bonus for 11.4 lakh Indian Railways employees. Now employees of another department, India Post, are set to receive a bonus.
India Post has announced a bonus equal to 60 days' wages for its employees. According to the department's order, eligible regular employees will receive a Productivity Linked Bonus (PLB) equal to 60 days' wages for the financial year 2025-26. Regular Gramin Dak Sevaks will be given a GDS ex-gratia bonus, and eligible full-time casual employees will receive an ad hoc bonus. The bonus will be calculated on the basis of the fixed pay scale, days worked and the category of the employee.
The order says the bonus applies to three categories of employees: regular employees, Gramin Dak Sevaks and casual employees. Regular employees include Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS), Group C and non-gazetted Group B. GDS working on a regular basis will be given the ex-gratia bonus. Casual employees include eligible full-time casual employees and casual employees working on a temporary basis, who will receive the ad hoc bonus.
On the formula, the bonus for regular postal employees will be worked out on the basis of 60 days. The average monthly wage will be multiplied by the number of bonus days and then divided by 30.4. The maximum monthly wage for calculating the bonus has been fixed at Rs 7,000. This means that even if an employee's eligible monthly wage is higher than Rs 7,000, the bonus will be calculated only on Rs 7,000. The same rule will apply to Gramin Dak Sevaks.
A major announcement has also been made for railway employees. The government has announced a 78-day productivity-linked bonus for 11.4 lakh railway employees, with a provision of Rs 2,009.61 crore. Each employee will be given a maximum of Rs 17,951 for the 78 days.
The railway employees covered include track maintainers, loco pilots, train managers, station masters, supervisors, technicians, technician helpers, pointsmen, ministerial staff and other Group C employees. The bonus is paid every year in the railways.
