An assault in the Colliery Ward area of Warora in Chandrapur has caused alarm. Following an argument over going to see Ganpati together, a young man, allegedly drunk, attacked his own friend and the friend's family. Four people were seriously injured, it is alleged.

According to the information available, Sharad Mushtaq Sheikh (30), a resident of Colliery Ward, was about to go to sleep after dinner with his wife at around 10.30 pm on Saturday, September 26. His neighbour and friend, Amit Ashok Meshram, allegedly arrived at the house drunk. He is alleged to have knocked on the door and insisted that Sharad go with him to see Ganpati.

As it was late and Amit was drunk, Sharad refused. Sharad and his wife tried to persuade Amit to go home, but he would not listen. As the argument escalated, Sharad's mother Shahnaz Sheikh (50) and sister Tarannum Sheikh (35) came down from the first floor and also tried to reason with Amit.

According to the allegation, this enraged Amit. He allegedly shoved Tarannum hard, and she fell headfirst from the first floor onto the road, suffering a serious head injury. Amit then allegedly pushed Shahnaz as well, making her fall on the stairs. When Sharad tried to stop him, he was also pushed down the stairs and lost consciousness.

Local residents immediately took the injured Tarannum and Shahnaz to the government hospital in Warora. As Tarannum's condition was very critical, doctors advised sending her to Chandrapur and from there to AIIMS and the medical college hospital in Nagpur. She is undergoing treatment in Nagpur. Sharad has a fracture in his left hand and has also been treated.

After treatment, Sharad Sheikh gave an oral complaint at Warora police station. On that basis, a case has been registered against the accused, Amit Ashok Meshram, under Section 117(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. Sub-inspector Ajinkya Anil Pawar is investigating the case further.
