Two major fires were reported in Mumbai amid the Diwali celebrations, one in Andheri and the other in Goregaon. In Andheri, a fire broke out on the 17th floor of a 32-storey building, spreading fear among residents.
The building, known as Runwal Tower, is in the Lokhandwala area of Andheri West. The fire erupted suddenly in a flat on the 17th floor. The fire brigade received the call at about 10 pm, and fire engines were rushed to the spot as soon as the information came in.
One fire engine, one water tanker, one rescue van and one jumbo tanker were deployed to bring the fire under control. As a precaution, an ambulance (108) was also sent to the spot. Firefighting was under way on a war footing. The exact cause of the fire is not yet known.
The second incident was in the Royal Palm area of Goregaon East, where a building caught a severe fire. The blaze broke out on the floor below the home of the owner of the Royal Palm colony. According to an initial estimate, firecrackers caused the fire.
It has also emerged that the building has no fire system and no fire brigade NOC. The sudden fire caused panic among the residents, and everyone ran out of the building to save their lives.
The fire brigade brought the blaze under control after considerable effort. With this, the fires at both Andheri and Goregaon came under the fire brigade's control.
