Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will inaugurate the 300-bed flagship hospital of NewEra Hospitals at Vardhaman Nagar in Nagpur on October 23. It is being seen as a major expansion of healthcare facilities in the Vidarbha region.

The hospital aims to offer modern surgical technology, diagnostic imaging, critical care monitoring and specialised medical services under one roof. It is expected that patients from Nagpur and nearby districts will get specialised treatment easily and will not have to travel to other cities for some procedures.

One of the hospital's biggest features is its robotic surgery programme, which will have both single-port and multi-port robotic surgical systems. According to NewEra Hospitals, it is bringing India's first single-port surgical robot here, as the hospital itself states. In single-port robotic surgery, select procedures are performed through a single entry point, while multi-port systems use several entry points.

These technologies are designed for minimally invasive surgery and offer better visualisation, precision and control over instruments. According to the hospital, their suitability and benefit depend on the procedure, the patient's condition and the assessment of the treating surgeon.

The hospital will also install modern diagnostic machines. These include an AI-enabled 3T MRI, built to give detailed imaging for assessing a range of conditions. The second is an AI-enabled 256-slice CT scanner, meant to produce detailed cross-sectional imaging for various clinical needs. The third is Hologic 3D mammography, an advanced imaging technology for breast screening and for assessing suspicious findings.

The hospital plans to use the 256-slice CT technology for cardiac imaging as well, including non-invasive assessment of the coronary arteries in patients who need it.

NewEra Hospitals said AI-based monitoring systems will be installed in the operation theatres and intensive care units, allowing continuous watch on patients and their clinical parameters. The technology is meant to help the medical team identify necessary changes and make timely clinical assessments, while decisions remain in the hands of qualified health professionals.

Under its rehabilitation services, the hospital will also start robotic physiotherapy. Technology-assisted rehabilitation can support selected patients in guided, repetitive therapy movements, alongside an individualised treatment plan for each patient, it was stated.
