Externed history-sheeter found hiding in Pune, held for stealing two-wheeler with wife's help
Khadak police detained Waseem Salim Patel, 42, externed from Pune city, in a raid in Kondhwa; he said he had stolen a two-wheeler with his wife's help.
A habitual offender who had been externed from Pune city was found living in hiding in the city itself, Khadak police action has shown. Police said the offender, who was moving around the city in defiance of the externment order, stole a two-wheeler with his wife's help. Police have detained the externed accused, Waseem Salim Patel (42, a resident of Kondhwa).
A citizen's two-wheeler was stolen on the night of September 21 from Kirad Aali in Bhavani Peth. A vehicle theft case was registered at Khadak police station, and police were investigating the theft.
During the investigation, Assistant Sub-Inspector Vinod Shinde and police constable Hemant Perane received information about the accused through a confidential informer. Acting on it, police raided the Kondhwa area under the guidance of Senior Police Inspector Dhananjay Pingale. Patel was detained in the operation.
Police said that during questioning Patel told them he had stolen the two-wheeler with his wife's help. This showed that he had been hiding in the city despite being externed, police said.
Police said Patel is a habitual offender on their records. A total of 14 serious cases, including theft, robbery and assault, are registered against him at various police stations in Pune city.
To curb his criminal activities, Kondhwa police externed him in 2025 from the jurisdictions of Pune city, Pimpri-Chinchwad and Pune district. The investigation has shown that he violated the externment order and was again living in hiding in the city.
Khadak police are conducting further investigation into the case. The stolen two-wheeler and the role of his wife are also being investigated.
