Nagpur: Officials of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) seized about 500 kg of ganja from a truck in Hudkeshwar on Sunday. Three people have been arrested in the case.
The action was taken in the Hudkeshwar police station area, near Mahadev Dhaba, which is located between Hotel Skyline and Hotel White House.
The arrested accused have been identified as Asif, a resident of Tajbagh, his driver Aryan, and another associate.
According to officials, Asif is a suspected drug trafficker and has several criminal cases registered against him.
Officials said the NCB team had received information that a large consignment of ganja was being taken from Odisha to Mumbai. The consignment was reportedly to be delivered to Mumbai via the Raipur-Durg-Nagpur route.
Acting on the information, the NCB team laid a trap on the service road of the Hudkeshwar Ring Road. Near the dhaba, the team spotted a truck parked at a secluded, dark spot.
Officials searched the truck and recovered ganja that had been hidden inside. The contraband was seized and all three suspects were taken into custody.
During preliminary questioning, the accused allegedly told investigators that they were carrying the consignment of ganja from Odisha to Mumbai.
Following the seizure, the investigation into the entire network has intensified. Investigators are trying to establish who was to receive the ganja in Mumbai and who had arranged the consignment.
The agency is also tracing the source of the ganja in Odisha and examining the possible roles of others involved in the supply chain.
