Electric two-wheeler sales surge in August, Chetak leads with 146% jump
Electric two-wheeler sales rose 146% year-on-year in August 2026, with Bajaj Chetak topping the list at 52,248 units sold
Demand for electric two-wheelers in the country continues to rise, and August 2026 sales figures confirm the trend. Across 15 models tracked, a total of 1,87,214 units were sold in August 2026, up from just 76,118 units in August 2025. This is a jump of 1,11,096 units, a 146% rise that points to strong growth in demand for this segment.
Bajaj Chetak topped the list with 52,248 units sold, the highest of any model. Chetak sales stood at just 14,014 units in August 2025, marking a 273% jump. Chetak sales rose by 38,234 units in all, and the model accounted for about 27.9% of total sales in the list, making it the biggest name this month.
TVS iQube came second with 42,882 units sold, up from 24,434 units in the same month last year, a growth of 76%. TVS Orbiter also sold 14,641 units. Combined, iQube and Orbiter took TVS's total sales to 57,523 units, about 30.7% of the overall figure.
Hero Vida was third with 25,558 units sold, up 108% from 12,273 units last year. Ather Rizta was fourth with 22,586 units, a rise of 30%. Combined sales of Ather's three models, Rizta, 450 and Konark, stood at 29,694 units.
Among the rest, Greaves Magnus sold 9,772 units, while River Indie sold 6,567 units, up 195%. Greaves Rio sales rose 272% to 1,911 units. Honda QC1 sold 1,902 units. Suzuki e-Access, Yamaha EC06 and Honda Activa e sold 668, 475 and 140 units respectively. Overall, four models, Chetak, iQube, Vida and Rizta, accounted for about 76.5% of total sales, showing that a large share of the market rests with a handful of big names.
