Divisional Commissioner Vijayalakshmi Bidri told departments to complete all session-related work on time, from the Vidhan Bhavan to traffic, medical cover and mobile toilets.
Divisional Commissioner Vijayalakshmi Bidri on Wednesday reviewed the city's administrative and infrastructure preparations for the upcoming winter session of the Legislature in Nagpur. At a meeting in the divisional commissioner's office, she took stock of the preparations from senior officials of various departments.
The meeting was told that officers and staff of the offices will begin arriving at the Vidhan Bhavan from November 19. Bidri therefore directed that all necessary arrangements at the Vidhan Bhavan be completed before that date.
She reminded the departments that ministers, people's representatives, senior administrative officers, employees, media persons and ordinary citizens from different parts of Maharashtra reach Nagpur in large numbers for the session. During the session days, the city's administration and public facilities come under additional strain. She said all departments connected with the session should start planning now and complete their work within the set timelines.
Vehicular movement in the city is likely to rise during the session. Bidri stressed that traffic arrangements be planned properly in view of this.
During the session, social organisations, employees' organisations and other groups hold marches and agitations over various demands. Keeping this in mind, she said adequate medical facilities should be kept where marches are taken out. Arrangements should be made so that help from the health department is available when needed. She also directed that mobile toilets be installed at necessary places for the convenience of people.
Bidri said departments including police, revenue, public works, health, transport and local self-government bodies play an important role in making the session a success. Each department should plan its responsibilities properly, and the work of one department should not affect the arrangements of another. She said that, where needed, decisions should be taken in coordination so that work is completed on time.
According to her, along with the people's representatives, officers and employees coming to Nagpur, ordinary citizens who visit the city for one purpose or another must also get the necessary facilities. She therefore asked all departments concerned to complete their preparations and confirm their arrangements before the session begins.
Joint Commissioner of Police Navinchandra Reddy, District Collector Kumar Ashirwad, Nagpur Rural Superintendent of Police Harsh Poddar and Divisional Joint Commissioner Tushar Mathkar were present at the meeting. Senior officials of the implementing agencies concerned also attended.
