The state government has sanctioned a separate deputy commissioner of police post for the traffic branch under the Mira-Bhayandar-Vasai-Virar police commissionerate.
The traffic branch in Mira-Bhayandar will now have its own deputy commissioner of police (DCP). The Maharashtra government has given formal approval to create the post for the traffic branch under the Mira-Bhayandar-Vasai-Virar police commissionerate.
The city's population is rising steadily, and so is the number of vehicles. Traffic congestion is becoming more serious by the day. The decision to strengthen traffic management has been taken in view of these conditions.
BJP MLA Narendra Mehta had sought the post from Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Mehta had placed the seriousness of the city's traffic problem before the Chief Minister. He had said that, given the pace at which the city is expanding, a separate senior officer is needed to give more attention to traffic management.
The Chief Minister responded positively to MLA Narendra Mehta's demand and directed the Director General of Police (DGP) to take the necessary action. Following this, the Maharashtra government gave formal approval on November 3, 2026 to create a separate DCP post.
The decision is expected to strengthen traffic planning, congestion control and effective enforcement of traffic rules in the Mira-Bhayandar area. It should also help in taking measures at accident-prone spots. With the city growing fast, citizens may get relief from the traffic branch having its own head.
MLA Narendra Mehta has thanked Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for the decision. He expressed the sentiment that the government is committed to the development of Mira-Bhayandar and the convenience of its citizens.
