The administration has stepped up efforts to increase the availability of drinking water in rural Dharashiv district after a worsening water shortage. Tanker supply and the acquisition of private wells have given people some relief. The administration is trying to ensure that drinking water keeps reaching people in the villages.
According to the district administration's report of October 17, 2026, 12 tankers are currently supplying water to nine villages in the district. In addition, 286 private wells have been acquired in the district.
The need for tankers is greatest in Dharashiv taluka. Seven tankers are running in five villages of the taluka. One tanker each has been deployed in Kaudgaon (Bavi), Kajarkheda and Borkheda. Three tankers are running in Palsap, while Nandurga is being supplied by one tanker.
Four tankers are running in Omerga taluka. Narangwadi has two tankers, while Balsur and Anandnagar are supplied by one tanker each. In Lohara taluka, one tanker is supplying water to Sastur village.
The report also states that tanker supply is currently not running in the five talukas of Tuljapur, Kalamb, Bhum, Washi and Paranda.
The administration has also stressed reducing dependence on tankers. Efforts are being made to meet drinking water needs by using local water sources. A total of 286 private wells have been acquired in the district. Of these, nine borewells have been taken to supply water to tankers, while the remaining 277 wells have been acquired for water supply other than by tanker. Through these wells, efforts are on to provide water at the village level itself, and people in villages facing the shortage are getting an alternative arrangement for drinking water.
During periods of water shortage, women, the elderly and young children in villages have to run around a great deal for drinking water. Regular supply in villages is therefore important. It has also been described as necessary that tanker water is distributed properly and that water from the acquired wells is used correctly.
