Dermatologist Jushya Bhatia Sarin shares easy ways to keep underarms soft and clean

Whether it is a sleeveless outfit or a favourite party dress, everyone wants clean, soft underarms. Dark underarms are no one's preference. Yet after a hurried shave, the skin there often turns rough or dark. This makes many women, in particular, hesitant to wear sleeveless clothes.

Well-known dermatologist Jushya Bhatia Sarin has shared a video on her Instagram handle, in which she describes easy ways to keep underarms soft and clean.

According to the dermatologist, keeping underarms soft requires cleansing the skin and removing dead skin, that is, exfoliating it. A body lotion containing 6 to 12 per cent lactic acid can be used for this. According to her, lactic acid helps remove dead cells that collect on the top layer of the skin, making it look softer and smoother than before.

The expert says people often apply cream or lotion on the face, hands and legs but neglect the underarms. She advises applying a light body lotion or moisturiser on the underarms at least once a day, which keeps the skin hydrated and soft.

She has also offered advice on shaving, so that the underarms do not look dark. Those who use a razor to remove underarm hair should never shave dry, because it can make the skin's texture rough. A light body wash or shaving gel can be applied before shaving. After lathering, shave gently in the direction of hair growth. After shaving, rinse the skin well with water and then apply a moisturiser.

According to the expert, frequent shaving can leave the skin dry and rough, or leave small marks on it. In such cases, laser hair reduction can be considered. She says it will end the need for repeated shaving and keep the underarms clean and soft.
