A badly decomposed body found in a field near Deoli Pendhri in Hingna may be that of Meena Telang, missing for 28 days; police await DNA results.
A decomposed body has been found in a field in the Deoli Pendhri area of Hingna in Nagpur district, causing alarm across the locality. The case of a woman missing for 28 days now appears to be turning into a mystery over a death.
The body was in such a state that it could not be identified from the face. Family members were also unable to recognise it. Going by the clothes found at the spot, police suspect it could be that of Bali alias Meena Ranveer Telang, who has been reported missing since October 7. Police have not yet confirmed this.
According to police, Meena disappeared suddenly on the night of October 6. It is said that she and her husband Ranveer had quarrelled that night over a conversation with a certain person. After the quarrel, the husband went and sat in the hall while Meena went to the kitchen to cook. When he reached the kitchen a little later, Meena was not there.
Family members searched extensively but found no clue. A missing-person complaint was then lodged at Hingna police station on October 7. Police registered a case of abduction and began an investigation.
About 28 days later, the discovery of a decomposed body in a field in the Deoli area gave the case a new turn. On receiving the information, DCP Zone-1 Rushikesh Reddy and Inspector Pramod Ghonge reached the spot with a police team. Based on the clothes recovered from the site, police suspect the body to be that of Meena Telang.
To confirm identity, police are now preparing to take blood samples from Meena's parents for a DNA test. Police have registered a case of accidental death and sent the body for post-mortem.
According to DCP Rushikesh Reddy, the identity of the body can be confirmed only after the DNA report arrives. If the body turns out to be Meena's, the most important questions before police will be the circumstances of her death and where she was during these 28 days.
No conclusion has yet emerged on whether the death was a murder or an accident. It is hoped that the mystery will be solved only after the DNA and post-mortem reports arrive.
