Datta Meghe Institute to be renamed Adani Institute, UGC approves
The UGC has approved the renaming of Datta Meghe Institute of Higher Education and Research in Nagpur and Wardha to Adani Institute of Higher Education and Research Center.
The Datta Meghe Institute of Higher Education and Research, which runs campuses in Nagpur and Wardha district, is set to be renamed. The institute's new name will be Adani Institute of Higher Education and Research Center, and the University Grants Commission (UGC) has approved the new name. The information was shared by the institute's Vice Chancellor Dr Lalit Bhushan Waghmare and Chief Service Officer Ravindra Mehere.
The institute was founded by Datta Meghe in 1990. It began as a single medical college but has since grown into a multi-disciplinary university with campuses in Nagpur and Wardha. With the new name, the collaboration between the Adani Foundation and DMIHER is expected to move in a new direction. Under this initiative, centres of excellence will be set up to provide affordable education and good healthcare facilities.
Dr Waghmare said the institute will continue to stand by its responsibility to provide good education and compassionate healthcare, with particular emphasis on working with rural areas and underprivileged communities. Efforts will also be made to strengthen research, adopt new technology, and create new opportunities for students, faculty, researchers, patients and different sections of society.
Ravindra Mehere said the initiative to take healthcare education and healthcare to the next level will also have the support of Priti Adani.
The Adani Social Foundation will pay special attention to strengthening research in the health sector. According to Dr Waghmare, because there is not enough space for research in Nagpur, the focus there will mainly be on treatment services, while a large amount of land is available for research in Wardha, where a plan is in place to build a major health research centre.
He said 100 students have already been admitted at Datta Meghe Dental College. Around Rs 100 crore will be invested each year across the Nagpur and Wardha campuses combined. Of this, the process of purchasing state-of-the-art medical equipment worth around Rs 55 crore has already begun.
The institute will also focus on providing world-class equipment and experienced faculty. Under the agreement between Datta Meghe Institute and the Adani Foundation, work will be carried out under a zero-management system that will prioritise patients first, followed by students, staff and local employment. The institute also said that scholarships worth around Rs 60 crore have been given to students so far.
