Conmen posing as company staff dupe elderly Nagpur woman of gold bangles
Two men who claimed to offer free jewellery polishing made off with an elderly woman's four gold bangles in Nagpur's Lakadganj area
Two unidentified men posing as employees of a company duped an elderly woman in the Lakadganj police station area of Nagpur and fled with her four gold bangles. The bangles weighed around 50 grams and are valued at nearly Rs 1.5 lakh.
The incident took place on the afternoon of September 18 in the Bhaurao Nagar locality of Vardhaman Nagar. Police said the accused were captured on CCTV cameras installed in the area, and a search for them has now begun.
According to police, both accused are believed to be around 45 years old. The two men arrived at the home of complainant Kumindrapal Madan and began speaking to his wife near the gate.
The accused introduced themselves as employees of "Royal Company" and said that, as part of a promotional offer by their company, they were cleaning and polishing gold and silver jewellery as well as copper and brass utensils free of cost.
Believing them, the woman first handed over some utensils to be cleaned. After the utensils were cleaned, she also removed the four gold bangles she was wearing and gave them to the accused for polishing.
Police said that as soon as the bangles were in their hands, the accused seized the opportunity and fled the scene. The four bangles weighed around 50 grams in total and are valued at approximately Rs 1.5 lakh.
Following the complaint, Lakadganj police have begun investigating the case. Footage from CCTV cameras in the area has captured the accused, giving police some leads on their identity and movements.
Police are now searching for the two unidentified accused across the city. Lakadganj police have appealed to the public to share any information that could help identify or locate the accused.
