Congress has finalised Abhijit Wanjari as its candidate for the Nagpur graduates' constituency election. The Congress leader has begun campaigning. The BJP, on the other hand, has not yet announced its candidate, and a contest for the ticket is under way within the party.

Wanjari said the recent Cockroach Janta Party agitation in the country and the Gyanesh Kumar matter would influence this election. He claimed that Congress alone would win the Nagpur graduates' constituency. He also said the election was a litmus test for the government and would make clear which side the people of the state were on.

Wanjari will file his nomination on October 5. Congress's Maharashtra in-charge Sirivella Prasad and state president Harshwardhan Sapkal are expected to be present, according to information available. With the BJP yet to name a candidate, it will be important to see whom the party fields against Wanjari.

Sudhakar Kohale has begun campaigning as a probable BJP candidate. Kohale said that whoever gets the ticket, the BJP's candidate has to be brought to victory. He said preparations for this had begun and that he too had started campaigning. During the campaign, Kohale met teachers of the Nagpur Zilla Parishad and heard their various demands.

Meanwhile, the BJP's headache has grown in the Nagpur division graduates' constituency, with aspirants from the Sangh Parivar seeking the ticket from Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Adv. Raman Senad, Vidarbha provincial head of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad's Mandir Aayam (temple wing), has demanded that he be given the ticket for the Nagpur graduates' constituency.

Senad said he has worked for the Sangh Parivar for 50 years and in the BJP for 30 years. He said he had sought a ticket many times and the party had denied it, but he continued to work honestly for the party and the Sangh. He said the Chief Minister is positive about him and he is confident of getting the ticket this time.

With the contest for the ticket heating up in the BJP, it will be important to see on whom the party stakes its bet in the home district of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari.
