Colleague stabbed inside WCL sub-area office in Chandrapur's Durgapur; accused arrested

Panic broke out on Thursday afternoon at the sub-area office of Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) in Durgapur, Chandrapur city. In the incident on November 5, an employee stabbed a colleague, leaving him seriously injured. According to police, the injured man has been admitted to hospital and the accused has been arrested.

The injured man is Mayur Satyagraha Patil, 40. The accused is Shubham Dilipsingh Janwar, 32. Both live in Shaktinagar Colony in Durgapur and work at WCL's Durgapur sub-area office.

Preliminary information indicates that the two were joking and teasing each other in the office on Thursday afternoon, and the banter turned into a sharp quarrel. Shubham is said to have become very angry over something. An argument followed and escalated into a scuffle.

It is alleged that during this, Shubham attacked Patil with a sharp knife kept in the office. Patil was seriously injured by multiple stab wounds.

Other employees present at the time intervened and brought the situation under control. They took the injured Patil to hospital immediately. On being informed, Durgapur police reached the spot and drew up a panchnama. Police took the accused, Shubham Janwar, into custody and registered a case against him under Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police said the accused has been arrested.

The broad-daylight attack on the office premises has created an atmosphere of fear in the WCL complex, and panic has spread among employees. Because a quarrel that began as a minor joke ended in a violent attack, questions are being raised about safety at the workplace and growing disputes among employees. Durgapur police are investigating the case further.
