The weather department expects dry weather, with minimum temperatures falling by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius over the next four to five days.
The chill of winter is now clearly being felt in Maharashtra. Temperatures have begun to fall because of changes in the weather. The weather department expects mostly dry weather and clear skies in different parts of the state over the next few days. Minimum temperatures may drop by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius during this period, so the cold is likely to build up gradually.
The department's latest report says there is a strong likelihood of completely clear skies in Konkan-Goa, Central Maharashtra and Marathwada on November 8, 9 and 10, three days in a row. There is no prospect of rain in these three regions. The days will feel warm in the sun, while the air will turn cooler at night. Weather is also expected to remain stable in Vidarbha and the rest of the state.
On maximum temperatures, there will be no major change in daytime temperatures in Maharashtra over the next four to five days, and they will stay roughly where they are. In neighbouring Gujarat too, no major change in maximum temperatures is likely over the next four to five days.
The difference will be clear in night and early-morning temperatures, however. Over the next four to five days, minimum temperatures in Maharashtra will fall gradually by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius. With the mercury dropping, people will feel the cold more. In Gujarat, there will be no major change in minimum temperatures over the next seven days, the weather department has said.
These changes could affect both farming and health. The clear, dry weather of November could prove beneficial for harvesting and threshing of rabi season crops. On the other hand, as minimum temperatures fall, people, especially children and the elderly, should take care to protect themselves from the morning and evening cold. This advice is being given by health experts. The cold is likely to be felt even more in the state in the coming week.
