Check these 6 UAN details before filing a PF withdrawal claim
EPFO says mismatched Aadhaar, PAN, bank or name details in the UAN can hold up PF withdrawal claims
The Employees Provident Fund, or EPF, is a major long-term savings support for millions of salaried employees. But when an online claim is filed to withdraw money from this account in times of need, problems can arise if there is any incorrect or mismatched information in EPFO records. That is why it helps to check a few essential UAN account details before filing a claim.
First, check the Aadhaar details. It is important to see whether the Aadhaar linked to the UAN and the personal details recorded in EPFO records are correct, especially details like name and date of birth.
Second, check the PAN details as well. See whether the PAN number recorded in the UAN is correct and whether the name on it matches EPFO records.
Third, it is very important that the bank account and IFSC code are correct, since the PF amount will be deposited into that account. Also make sure that the bank account is active.
Fourth is the spelling of the name. If the spelling of the name differs across EPFO, Aadhaar and PAN, it is best to get it corrected first.
Fifth, check the date of birth. Whether the date of birth recorded in the UAN is correct is an important detail for the member's identification and for EPFO records.
Sixth, also check the employment dates. One should check whether the Date of Joining the company and the Date of Exit from the job have been recorded correctly.
In January 2025, EPFO simplified the process for correcting information in members' profiles. Members whose UAN is already Aadhaar-verified can, in eligible cases, update several details themselves, including name, date of birth, gender, nationality, parents' names, marital status, and date of joining and exit from employment. However, in some cases involving UANs issued before October 1, 2017, verification from the employer may still be required.
In April 2025, EPFO made another change. The requirement of employer approval for adding bank account details to the UAN after bank verification has now been removed. In addition, the requirement to upload a copy of a cheque or verified bank passbook while filing an online claim has also been removed.
Extra caution should be exercised while taking help from an agent or an unknown person to withdraw PF. EPFO itself warns its members not to share UAN, password, PAN, Aadhaar, bank account details or OTP with anyone. EPFO's official portal clearly states that EPFO never asks for such sensitive information over phone calls, messages or social media.
So instead of rushing to withdraw PF, taking a few minutes to check all the details before filing a claim can prove worthwhile. If any error is found in the details, it should be corrected first, and only then should the online claim be filed.
