A major traffic jam occurred on a main road in Chandrapur city after the Chandrapurcha Raja Ganesh mandal of the Jatpura Gate area took out an immersion procession without prior permission from the administration. A case has been registered against the mandal's office-bearers and members at Ramnagar police station.

According to police, a public Ganesh idol immersion procession was taken out on September 25, 2026, within the limits of Chandrapur city, Ramnagar and Durgapur police stations. The Chandrapurcha Raja Ganesh mandal also took part in this procession. When the procession reached near Jatpura Gate, the mandal's workers burst a large number of firecrackers, which blocked the path of other Ganesh mandals following behind. Police then intervened and eased the situation, and sent the mandal towards the immersion route. However, the mandal took the idol back to its pandal without immersing it, police said.

The next day, on September 26, 2026, an immersion procession of around 50 public Ganesh mandals in the city was to be taken out. Before this procession, at around 4 pm, the Chandrapurcha Raja mandal suddenly took out an immersion procession again without giving any prior information or seeking permission from the police or the administration. This created a major obstruction for other mandals on the main immersion route, police said.

The road from Dawa Bazar and Kevalram Chowk via Ramsetu bridge to the immersion ghat is considered vital for ambulances, residents and daily traffic. The unauthorised procession on this road caused a massive traffic jam. Angry residents filed several complaints with the police.

Not only that, even after reaching the immersion ghat, the mandal took an unnecessary two to three hours over the immersion. This forced other public Ganesh mandals waiting behind to stand by for a long time and face considerable trouble. Office-bearers of other mandals expressed strong displeasure over this, police noted.

The police administration took serious note of the obstruction to traffic during the immersion procession, the procession being taken out without any prior permission from the administration, and the unnecessary delay in immersion. A case has been registered at Ramnagar police station under Crime No. 1136/2026, under Sections 223 and 285 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Sections 135 and 138 of the Maharashtra Police Act, against the office-bearers and members of the Chandrapurcha Raja Ganesh mandal, Jatpura ward.

The police administration has warned that similarly strict action will be taken in future against anyone obstructing public traffic, in order to maintain law and order in the city.
