Durgapur police have booked a 59-year-old landlord on a young woman tenant's complaint of molestation on October 31; the allegations are yet to be tested and the probe is on.
A case of molestation has been registered against a landlord at Durgapur police station in Chandrapur city, on the complaint of a young woman who lives in a rented room. According to the police, the complaint relates to an incident on October 31.
The accused landlord is Kisan Ramchandra Gunjekar, 59, who is an employee of WCL. The matter falls under the Durgapur police station area, where the incident has caused considerable stir.
According to the information available, the complainant had been living as a tenant at Gunjekar's house for about a year. The complaint alleges that at around 8 am on October 31, while she was fast asleep in her room, the landlord entered it without permission and without any authority.
As per the allegation, after entering he went up to the sleeping woman and began arguing with her. The complaint also says he made obscene remarks. He allegedly said, "I get no pleasure from my wife, she just takes medicine and goes to sleep." The complaint states that the accused then tried to make an obscene advance while molesting her. Terrified, the woman ran out of the room screaming to save herself.
The woman was badly frightened by the incident. She went to her friends and told them everything. They then went together to seek an explanation from the accused. According to the complaint, the accused's wife instead mocked the young women and said, "That is a good thing." The complaint describes this response as irresponsible and provocative.
Hurt and deeply shaken by this behaviour, the woman went straight to Durgapur police station and lodged her complaint. On the basis of it, the police have registered a case against the landlord, Kisan Ramchandra Gunjekar, under Sections 74, 75(1) and 332 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
The police are conducting further legal investigation. The allegations are at the stage of a complaint and the investigation is continuing.
