Bus conductor accused of molesting, attempting to rape young woman near Nagpur
A conductor on a Nagpur-Mandla bus allegedly molested a 21-year-old passenger and tried to rape her before she fought him off
A conductor allegedly misbehaved with and tried to force himself on a 21-year-old girl travelling on a private travel bus in Nagpur city. The conductor backed off after the girl protested loudly and screamed. A case has been registered at Sitabuldi police station and an investigation has begun.
The incident took place on a Vijayant Travels bus going from Nagpur to Mandla. It is being said that around midnight, when most passengers on the bus had fallen asleep and the bus was passing through a deserted stretch of road, the conductor spotted the girl alone and began misbehaving with her.
According to information given to police, the girl is a resident of Mandla in Madhya Pradesh and works at a family's home in Nagpur. About 12 days ago, she had gone to the MP bus stand to travel to her village to meet her family. Around 10:30 pm, she boarded the Vijayant Travels bus for Mandla. As the bus moved ahead into the night, most passengers fell asleep.
According to the complaint, as the bus was passing through a deserted area, the conductor began hovering around the girl. He is accused of making lewd remarks and behaving in an objectionable manner with her. The girl protested, but it is alleged that despite this, the conductor tried to rape her. Showing courage, the girl began screaming loudly and resisting, and on hearing her voice the conductor panicked and backed off.
The girl did not lodge a complaint immediately on reaching Mandla. On September 15, when she returned to Nagpur, she told the family she works for the entire incident. She then went to Sitabuldi police station along with members of that family and filed a complaint.
Acting on the victim's complaint, police have registered a case against the bus conductor and begun an investigation. According to police, the accused is being identified and searched for. Further details will emerge only once the investigation is complete, and legal action will follow on that basis.
